Charleston Area Neighborhoods
A policy of responsible real estate development is the key to our success in creating new neighborhoods. Our people have a passion for life in Charleston, South Carolina, and the lowcounty. We live and work in the same neighborhoods we have developed over the years. We have invested our careers in real estate development in order to help build better communities and neighborhoods.
We created our first neighborhood in 1950 in the Riverland Terrace area of James Island near Charleston. In the mid 1950s, we managed the development and real estate sales of Lawton Bluff Plantation on James Island and Ashley Hall Manor west of the Ashley. In 1960's we handled exclusive real estate sales on Kiawah Island, Johns Island and also in The Hermitage subdivision in Mt. Pleasant. And in 1969, we coordinated sales for Summerville's Sprucewood subdivision. Other neighborhoods that Read & Read has been involved with are White Point, Whitehurst, St. Michael's Place, Stiles Point Plantation, Clearview, Fort Johnson Estates, Parrot Creek, Bayview Farms, Byrnes Down, Farmfield, Harrison Acres, Rotherwood Estates, Sylvan Shores, Ashley Harbor, Northbridge Terrace, Charlestown Estates, Edgewater Park, Shadow Moss, Cantebury Woods, Parkwood Estates, Sandhurst, Huntington Woods, Ashley Hall Plantation, The Old Village in Mt. Pleasant, I'on, Park West, Charleston National, Dunes West, Brickyard Plantation, Ivy Hall, Snee Farm, Belle Hall, Long Point, Etc.
We began developing real estate on James Island in 1956 because of its close proximity to Charleston. We never dreamed back then that Charleston, SC, would grow to be the thriving community it is today, with some of the best real estate on the East Coast. James Island offers incredible diversity in real estate, from waterfront property to wooded lots, from marsh views to views of downtown Charleston. James Island is truly The Island with Everything.
Our tradition of success continues today with Lawton Harbor on James Island. Lawton Harbor is the final phase of the Lawton Bluff development we began in 1956.
